I love this statement, and yet I fear that, in a culture so gorged on celebrity status and fame, finding a teacher with such humility as this would be rare indeed.
I do know that I can no longer view my life in terms of “service” because of how deeply my own self was denied when I gave myself over to service to others. I haven’t figured out how to strike that delicate balance, between caring for self and serving others. Mostly, I have a bad taste in my mouth for service and I think that’s tragic.
