…and that’s the truth

Forget the women’s vote. Sarah Palin is about the evangelical vote

The
pundits who say Republic presidential candidate John McCain picked
Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate to secure the women’s
vote are missing the point. She was chosen almost entirely to win over the white evangelical vote….

…American evangelicals are used to feeling persecuted by the wider culture, and almost seem to find some energy in it. Many American evangelicals will link the criticism aimed at them and Palin to the slings and arrows endured by Jesus Christ on the cross. Perceived persecution strengthens the identity of some.

If you’re wondering why I keep mentioning “white evangelicals,” it’s because polls show black evangelicals (who make up about nine per cent of the U.S. population) are a virtual slam dunk for Barack Obama. Politically speaking the U.S. is remarkably polarized, and much of it has to do with religion.

    Mak,

I believe this to be his biggest reason for selecting Palin. If he draws their vote, it puts him within range in many places to challenge Obama.

I don’t know…maybe I’m getting too cynical but I believe we’re giving McCain too much credit. I think he really is counting on the ignorance of the voter and is seeking the “stupid vote.”

I quit listening to Dobson years ago. I was wondering what he would do. I thought he had a hissy fit and said he would never vote for McCain?? Did I hear wrong?
The pile of BS… it grows deeper every day.
