winter knitting

I’m looking forward to winter knitting. I had some alpaca blend on hand and started a basket weave scarf (bad pic, the color is a very pale grayish blue with shiny specks, the pattern is free here if you’re interested)

and it’s getting me excited for chunky wool hats, mittens, scarves and slippers to knit up and enjoy in the cooler months. I did a little knitting and crochet this summer with cotton and bamboo - a lacy shawl, a lace beanie for a friend and a crochet bag amongst other things but winter knitting is where it’s at for me. I’m hoping to get a few pieces done for our trip to England…I’m thinking of bright pinks and purples so I can spot my girls (and maybe even my husband) from a distance if need be…maybe I’ll put big puffy pom poms on the tops of their hats too LOL.

    jealous. that looks quite cozy.
i could have used a nice warm hat tonight. i actually had someone teach me how to knit a couple years ago. I wonder if i still remember. i suppose it is sort of like riding a bike.

1 cotton reel, 4 nails on the top - French Knitting , you generally get a knitted ‘rope’ which can be made into rugs or into small baskets. But a rug takes a very long time to make.

we call that an i-cord, you can make it with 2 double pointed knitting needles as well - I’ve seen the nail boards in magazines.

David - it is like riding a bike - if you actually learned the first time so that it was ingrained - but it would be easy to refresh your memory either way. There are a bazillion videos online that cover everything from learning the basics to confusing stitches. I think it’s great when men knit.

I love hand-knitted/crocheted sweaters, hats, mittens and etc. My mom used to knit & crochet us our winter wear every year. I especially love a knitted afghan draped over my legs on a chilly night while reading or watching “the game” on TV. I’m going to call my mom and thank her.

    Peace.

David in a pink hat. He’ll be right jaunty wearing it!

I still want to learn to knit–I think it will be another helpful way for me to cope with this cancer; creating as an act of obstinance against the cancer.

You’re such a kick-ass knitter. Oh, and a kick-ass graphic designer. And, mostly, a kick-ass friend. Thanks for my purple lace beanie. I love it.
