Just sayin…

I’m sitting here watching my girls play in pop fountains and allowing thoughts to pop in my head…

It just occurred to me that the society that doesn’t allow its children to swear (esp. girls) is the same society that encourages its boys to participate in violent role play.

… I’m not saying we should encourage our kids to cuss…just noticing the curiosity of it.

____

“Up yours”, “In your face”, “Take that” Christianity is an insult to the God of Christianity.

Are they? Or are they just insulting to hyper-sensitive human ears?

no, I think they’re an insult to God. There’s a difference between the “offensive to the religious” language and tone of Christ and the “up yours” tone of some preachers

I agree with you, Mak. Christianity with a caustic flavor is just about as appealing as coffee that smells like gasoline.

But, the greater issue is not with whether or not the caustic nature of in your face christianity is “appealing,” but God-honoring. It’s hard for me to imagine that the God who is in essential nature love and who yearns for our love-response to His overtures of love would be honored by the take that philosophy which some seem to uphold.

On another note: Some of the girls I knew back in the day could cuss with the best (or is it “the worst”) of ‘em. They could also ride and rope with the best of ‘em too!

heh … I just re-read your post and realized I didn’t “get” the last sentence. Especially since I hadn’t read your earlier MD post when I read this one. Now it all makes alot more sense. And … I would agree that style of preaching and “being” in Christ would probably be offensive to God. Since it seems antithetical to much of who Jesus claimed to be.

It is an insult to God. I think any drama that is added to the simplicity of Jesus and the Gospel is insulting. I am thinking along the lines of screaming preachers pAleeeeding the blood of Jesus…smack ‘em on the head and demanding healing and all the other things that they somehow think getting louder will bring about.
