what is MOST IMPORTANT
I always like reading passages in Scripture that have language like “best” or “most important”. I love the “Jesus Creed” (love God with all your heart, soul and strength and love your neighbor as yourself).
Maybe this is because I’m not immune from getting caught up in issues that are not the “most important” when it comes to Christianity. I like academics. I like philosophy. And because of that, I like to study and discuss all kinds of spiritual issues. Which is great as long as I keep my focus the ONE who makes all this matter in the first place.
More and more lately I have been drawn away from the little things and drawn closer to Jesus and his life, ministry and charge to us.
All that to say, I like this section from today’s New Testament reading from the Revised Common Lectionary
1 Cor. 15:3 I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. 4 He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.
So Paul is saying that he passed on what was most important. That Christ died for our sins, and he was buried and that he was raised from the dead on the third day.
The Word of the Lord
Thanks be to God
