Cycle of prayer: 1/20/07
From the Anglican Cycle of Prayer
Psalm: 98: 1-4 Titus 1: 10-16
Titus 1:12 One of Crete’s own prophets has said it: “Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons.” [a] 13 He has surely told the truth!
One of my favorite sections in Bell’s Velvet Elvis was when he talks about how all truth, all beauty and all that is good belongs to God. Which is why we don’t have to fear things that are not overtly “sacred”/Christian and we can find God in all truth, all beauty and all that is good.
An example he gives is Paul quoting philosophers - this is one instance. Paul here is quoting a philosopher of Crete and saying “he surely told the truth!”
I think the point Bell made is an important one with far reaching ramifications for Jesus followers.
