Cycle of Prayer: Jan 17

From the Anglican Cycle of Prayer

Psalm: 100 II Tim. 3

Psalm 100

A psalm. For giving grateful praise.

1 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.2 Worship the LORD with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.

3 Know that the LORD is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.

5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

I love this Psalm. I was reflecting in particular on v. 3 “Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.”

What a wonderful thing to KNOW that I am God’s. What peace and joy can be found in knowing that first and foremost, above all else and tantamount to everything, I am God’s CREATION. Oh to know this more, to more deeply grasp the chesed - the unconditional mercy/loving kindness - that God has for me.

Today’s morning prayer from A Holy Island Prayer Book

Eternal God and Father

You create us by your power

And redeem us by your love:

Guide and strengthen us by your Spirit,

That we may give ourselves in love and service

to one another and to you.
