Sisters

Aliyah is so precious, when Shayel gets upset, she gets upset. She doesn’t really do it with any other upset baby/kid so it seems like it’s really specific to her sister which I find so cool.

And Shayel just continues to amaze me with her gentleness and patience with Aliyah. She is also so helpful with her. I can always count on her to help me out and give me a report on her (”Shayel, is Aliyah ok?” is a common question heard around here).

More proof that Shayel is a natural born diplomat. Today, I asked her if she wanted a red apple or a green apple, this was her response.

“red”
me: “ok, David, she said she wants red” (said to David in the kitchen)
Shayel: “I like green, but I just want red”

She almost never says she doesn’t like something, just that she “doesn’t want it right now” or “will have it later” (with no intention of having it later). I am so curious to see how this natural bent in her is worked out with her other gifts and talents in her life.

She is also very sensitive and very concerned about things being just. She gets very upset when she thinks something is unfair or if someone is being treated unfair.

Oh, and in other news. We have poison control number stickers on our phone receivers and one day about 2 weeks ago she asked me what they were. I explained in as simple terms as possible what they were, using an example that if Aliyah drank something that might be dangerous we would call that number to see what we should do to help her. We would tell the person on the phone what she drank and that person would help us know what to do. Today, David told Shayel to pick up a button that was on the floor and reminded her that we need to keep an eye out for small things because Aliyah could put them in her mouth and choke and that would hurt her. Shayel said “then we need to call that number and ask the person to help us”. We haven’t taught her about 911 except briefly in passing but she clearly remembered our little poison control “lesson”. So I said to David that I think now would be a good time to be more persistent about teaching 911. Sometimes this kid blows my mind.
